Supporting Brain Health
For Aging Minds
Founded in September of 2024, Aim for Unity is a FULLY student-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting brain health and dementia awareness through archery. We provide free archery workshops for senior citizens across NJ and NY to support mental wellness, improve focus, and strengthen community connection. Our sessions are beginner-friendly, and designed to be safe and engaging for older adults. No prior experience required. All abilities welcome!
Why Archery for Older Adults?
According to the World Health Organization, the risk of cognitive decline can be reduced through three key areas: physical activity, cognitive stimulation, and social interaction.
Remarkably, archery combines all three! At Aim for Unity, we leverage this through drawing the bow for physical activity, remembering shooting steps for cognitive stimulation, and shooting alongside others for social interaction.
Safety
At Aim for Unity, we use Arrovel by Fivics, equipment built for beginners and adaptive settings, so anyone can start shooting from their first session.
Velcro-tipped arrows make every session beginner-friendly
Lightweight bows: We use bows that are light & easy to pull for seniors
A real archery experience. Despite adapted equipment, participants still shoot recurve bows, the same style of bow used at the Olympic Games, preserving the technique, focus, and excitement of traditional archery.
